Democratic Debate Madness

Tuesday night’s Democratic debate sponsored by CNN was interesting, to say the least. Yours truly was unfortunately flying back from Atlanta during the debate but I have since caught up with what happened and let me tell you, it was pretty spectacular.

The five Democratic presidential candidates debated one another at the Wynn Las Vegas Resort in front of an enthusiastic crowd. According to CBS News more than 15.3 million people tuned in live to watch the candidates debate.

Understandably, Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders dominated the debate as the two most popular

candidates but Chafee, Webb, and O’Malley all had time to give their own opinions on issues ranging from the Black Lives Matter movement to gun control to Planned Parenthood.

I happen to think it is silly when news sources state that one candidate “won” a political debate. This is entirely subjective and only causes public opinion to sway unnecessarily. However, many new sources are currently stating that Hillary was the clear cut winner. Despite this “victory”, it was refreshing to see the Democratic candidates engaged in a sense of camaraderie despite vying for the same position – at one point, Bernie Sanders defended Hillary Clinton against email abuse violations, stating that the American people are “sick and tired of hearing about” her “damn emails.” It was refreshing and heartwarming to see candidates understand that they need to encourage each other rather than tear one another down like we have seen in the past two Republican debates.

The next debate will be for the Republican candidates hosted by CNBC at the University of Colorado, Boulder on 28 October at 8pm ET. I will most certainly cover this debate!
