The Donald (Unfortunately) Reigns Supreme

It pains me to write yet another post about Donald Trump but it must be done. Frankly, the time has come that we officially cannot ignore the real possibility that he may end up being the Republican nominee.

Last night Donald J. Trump was declared the winner of the Republican Nevada caucuses with 45.9% of the vote. This was a huge deal for Trump and his campaign. I am here to say that for the first time, I feel as though I need to resign myself to a potential President Trump. This feels almost painful to say. I was listening to BBC News this morning where several several organizers for the Trump, Cruz, and Rubio campaigns were being interviewed. The Rubio interviewee stated that his campaign hopes to encourage all other candidates to drop out of the race in order to have the chance to stop Trump. This is an interesting idea, but seems very unlikely. The fact that such a drastic measure is even being considered is concerning. On the other hand, another interviewee suggested that if all remaining candidates stay in the race long enough, they may keep Trump from reaching the 1237 necessary delegates to gain the nomination. This too seems unlikely but we’ll have to see. The Republican party needs to decide  quickly if they will put their support behind Trump or if they will actively go against the party’s most popular candidate. This could be the end of the Republican party as we know it.

March 1st is Super Tuesday. In 6 days, we may very well know who the official nominees will be for both the Republicans and Democrats. I’ll be back for a post on March 2nd with updates and thoughts about Super Tuesday, but this Friday morning I will be heading to the ancestral land of Donald Trump – Scotland!
