Expat Elector Weekly Roundup #5
Here is the weekly roundup of the top five most important stories of the week in the US election as well as any upcoming local events here in Montreal or the surrounding area if you want to get involved with the election right here in Canada.This will be a short article due to the fact that I’m sick but I wanted to be sure to post a roundup article!
- Everyone and their mother in the Presidential race has an opinion on refugees, Islam, and terrorism. Regardless of their place on the political spectrum, every candidate for the White House has made statements on the Paris attacks and various political discussions that have stemmed as a result. Read my article “Thoughts on the refugee crisis and Republicans” from earlier this week to find out more about what politicians are specifically saying and doing in response to this important political issue.
- Donald Trump has reached new levels of offense. That is all I have to say on this because otherwise I will be too mad.
- The polling gap between Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders is growing larger. In the most recent numbers from polls such as Fox News, ABC, and Bloomberg, Hillary Clinton is leading the Democratic Presidential Nomination by an average of +25.6 points. While Bernie Sanders still has time to gain in the polls, Clinton’s significant gains should not be ignored nor taken lightly.
- Ted Cruz is in the process of securing the important evangelical GOP vote. As one of two US Senators for the state of Texas, Cruz has already been supported by the greater Republican party for his right-wing views but he is also succeeding in winning favor with American evangelical Protestants. In addition to believing in socially conservative ideas such as the anti-choice movement and opposing same-sex marriage, the Texas senator is involving himself in religious issues by forming a “national prayer team” for his campaign and placing considerable focus on including religious rhetoric into speeches.
- Bobby Jindal ended his Presidential campaign during an interview on Fox News. During an on-air announcement, Bobby Jindal marked the end of his campaign on November 17th. After polling for weeks at less than 1%, it was time to stop while still somewhat ahead. You can watch his announcement here.
